Identification of Recently Deforested Land in Kenya

In alignment with Kenya’s presidential initiative to expand forest cover from 8% to 30% by 2032, Agizo conducted a comprehensive analysis using satellite imagery and change detection modeling to pinpoint areas of recent deforestation. The results revealed significant deforestation across Lari constituency within the last five years. This data plays a crucial role in guiding targeted reforestation efforts, contributing to sustainable land management and supporting the nation’s environmental goals.

Identification of Suitable Agricultural Land in South Africa

Agizo played a key role in supporting South Africa’s land reform program by using advanced geospatial analysis to identify land suitable for agriculture. This initiative has helped prevent the costly acquisition of unsuitable land for redistribution, resulting in significant savings for the program. The success of the project earned Agizo national recognition from the Geomatics community, further highlighting the impact of their innovative solutions on sustainable land management.

​Asset Management Solution for Oil and Gas Plants

Agizo implemented an electronic asset management solution for oil and gas plants, leveraging geospatial technology to monitor and manage assets more efficiently. The system significantly reduced the time needed to capture and report on structural defects, leading to cost savings and enhanced safety in the plant operations. This innovative approach streamlined maintenance and asset tracking processes in a complex industrial environment.

National Spatial Planning Data Repository

Agizo developed a National Spatial Planning Data Repository to strengthen South Africa’s provinces and municipalities in spatial planning and land use management. The project created a centralized platform for sharing spatial planning data across different levels of government, enhancing collaboration and enabling more informed decision-making for urban development and land management policies.

Human Settlements Identification for South Africa’s Census 2022 Planning

For the 2022 South African census, Agizo helped planners identify human settlements across the country by leveraging advanced satellite data. The project accurately categorized settlements into formal residential areas, informal settlements, smallholdings, and industrial and commercial zones. This comprehensive approach ensured precise data collection, aiding census planning and improving resource allocation for future development.

Berlyn Mixed Use Development Drone Survey Data Repository

Agizo was commissioned to conduct drone surveys for the Berlyn mixed-use development near Letsitele, Limpopo, covering a 3,000-hectare area. The collected data was used to create a highly accurate base map, serving as a crucial foundation for all project disciplines involved in the township’s development. This comprehensive mapping ensures precise planning and execution across various sectors of the project.

Municipal Land Development Application System

Agizo developed an electronic portal for municipal land development applications, streamlining the submission, assessment, and review process for South African municipalities. Designed to replace traditional paper-based systems, particularly in rural areas, the system significantly reduces processing times and improves accuracy in land use allocations. This ensures more consistent and informed decision-making for land development application approvals and rejections.

Topographical Map - Boiketlong, Sebokeng

Agizo utilized drone technology to create a detailed topographical map of the Boiketlong informal settlements in Sebokeng, Gauteng. The data captured was instrumental in planning and designing critical upgrades, including improvements to public infrastructure such as roads, water, and power. It also supported efforts to enhance housing and shelter conditions while contributing to capacity development within the community.

Topographical Map - Rust ter Vaal, Vereeniging

Agizo conducted a detailed topographical survey of the Rust Ter Vaal informal settlements in Vereeniging, Gauteng, using advanced drone technology. The collected data played a crucial role in planning and designing necessary upgrades, including enhancements to public infrastructure such as roads, water, and electricity. Additionally, it supported efforts to improve housing and shelter conditions, while aiding in capacity development initiatives for the community.

Sasol FAD4

Agizo carried out a drone and bathymetric survey for Sasol’s FAD4 project, focusing on one of the company’s fine ash dams. The primary goal of the survey was to monitor periodic changes on the ash dam, ensuring that it remains stable and does not pose any deformation or safety hazards. The data collected provides valuable insights for maintaining the dam’s structural integrity and preventing potential risks.

Lanseria (150 Hectare Farm) Topographical Map

Agizo was commissioned to conduct drone surveys on the 150-hectare Motlana farm in Lanseria to develop a detailed topographical map. The objective was to assess key land features, including terrain types, existing facilities such as water and power supplies, and road infrastructure. The survey also provided contour data to evaluate the land’s gradient. The high level of accuracy achieved through this project supports a variety of disciplines and enables informed decision-making for future development.

Arnot Opco - Topographical Map & Volumentric Calculations & Security

Agizo was tasked with creating a topographical map of Arnot Opco to assess the progress of rehabilitation efforts using change detection techniques. This data is crucial for monitoring and regulating climate change mitigation, socio-economic development, biodiversity preservation, and maintaining ecological balance. In addition, Agizo conducted volumetric calculations to support further land management strategies and ensure precise resource allocation. The project also included security monitoring to enhance site protection and safeguard rehabilitation activities.

Nungu Mine - Topographical Map and Volumentric Calculations and Security

Agizo was commissioned to develop a topographical map of Nungu Mine to assess the current condition of the site. The project involved performing volumetric calculations of the coal stockpiles, providing critical data for resource management and operational efficiency. Additionally, Agizo implemented security measures to monitor the site, ensuring the safety and integrity of the mining operations. The data collected supports effective decision-making and enhances the overall management of the mine.

Digital Audit Tool for Informal Settlement Mapping and Town Planning

The Digital Audit Tool addresses challenges in informal settlements such as inadequate housing and lack of services. Using drone imaging and GIS-based data collection, we conduct household surveys to assess conditions, infrastructure, and environmental needs with real-time tracking for efficiency.

This tool has been deployed in over 20 informal settlements aiding in informed urban planning and development.

Nandoni Pipeline Survey

Agizo was commissioned to conduct a detailed survey for the construction of a 52km bulk pipeline, extending from Nandoni Water Treatment Works to Nsami Water Treatment Works’ new reservoirs. The survey provided essential data for the pipeline’s alignment, ensuring accurate placement and efficient construction. This project supports the development of vital water infrastructure, improving water distribution and supply for the region.

Mopani Water Survey

Agizo was appointed to develop a comprehensive geodatabase for the Mopani Municipality to enhance spatial modeling and analysis. This included conducting a detailed field survey to accurately map the water supply infrastructure and elevation data within the Greater Giyani Local Municipality. Additionally, Agizo provided socio-economic data for all villages and settlements in the area. The project also involved route and topographic surveys for the Nandoni to Giyani raw water pipeline and the Giyani Water Treatment Works to Giyani CBD bulk water pipeline, ensuring the transition from asbestos pipes to steel pipes.

Syferfontein Survey

Agizo was appointed to conduct a land survey for the Syferfontein project, led by the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements. The project aimed to transform urban planning and support housing development for up to 60,000 residential units, ranging from low to high income. The scope of work included creating a base plan showing project boundaries, assessing topography at 0.5m intervals, verifying property descriptions, and identifying servitudes and reserves. Additionally, Agizo assessed mining and mineral-related rights to ensure comprehensive land use planning.

STATSSA Satellite Imagery / Change Detection

Agizo was commissioned to supply high-resolution satellite imagery for Statistics South Africa in preparation for Census 2021. The project involved seamlessly integrating satellite imagery into Stats SA’s workflow platform, allowing access across desktop, server, web, and mobile navigation devices. Agizo utilized change detection techniques to monitor land-use changes, ensuring accurate data collection and efficient census planning. This solution supported precise mapping of human settlements and infrastructure across the country.

Secunda Digital Civil Assets Inspections Maintenance Management Solution

Agizo implemented a digital civil asset monitoring and management solution in Secunda, utilizing GIS technology. This system enables real-time capture and reporting of structural defects, significantly reducing the time needed for inspections and maintenance. The solution not only enhances safety but also delivers substantial cost savings through more efficient asset management.

SPLUMA Project: Strategic Land Identification, Land Use Classification Framework, and Portal Development

Agizo’s SPLUMA project supported South Africa’s land reform by developing a methodology to identify strategically located land, aiding the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in land acquisition decisions. Agizo also created a Land Use Classification Framework, enhancing the assessment and transfer of productive land to beneficiaries. Additionally, a content management and communication portal was developed to streamline the implementation of the Spatial Planning Land Use Management Act (SPLUMA) across various government levels.

NSPDR PROJECT

In collaboration with ESRI, Agizo developed a National Spatial Planning Data Repository to integrate government data for efficient spatial planning and enable seamless sharing across all levels of government. The project also included the creation of an E-lodgement workflow tool to streamline the processing of municipal development applications.

Senwes Grain Storage Facility Topographical Survey

Senwes requested a topographical survey of their grain storage facilities in Hertzogville and Henneman to assess the current site features. This map enables them to better understand the land’s layout and plan future developments efficiently, ensuring optimal use of the available space.
